Flipped family event “Our own family day”

Submitted by htm.admin on

Our traditional school family event in the month of May comes differently this year. On May 14-16 instead of getting together at school, each student and their family is expected to hold their own event at their home or wherever they choose. Students share the photos of their event  and every person who is in the photo will get a present.

School life from May 10th

Classes 1-4, 3b, 5b, 6b and 9 are learning at school (contact learning). Hobby classes in year 1-3 are class based (not mixing students).

Classes 5-8  continue with distance learning.

Students are more dispersed- fewer students on different floors and less moving around in the school house. There are several steps taken to reduce physical contacts between different classes and to ensure safety and well being of the staff and students.

International Dance Day

It has become a tradition to dance together with our entire school on the International Dance Day, April 29. Altough Corona made it impossible for the whole school to be together, we still followed the tradition. Students danced in their homes and sent videos, and a group of local school staff got together for a short dance outdoors.

English week April 12-16

Submitted by htm.admin on

This year our English week was in the month of April. What did we do this year?

Students made memes and practised tongues twisters in English lessons

We had an Ultimate Lyrics Training Challenge @ LyricsTraining.com

Students sang English pop classics and children songs in music lessons.

In literature and English lessons students learned about Shakespeare and some more contemporary English speaking authors.

Food packages

During the Covid-19 pandemic and school lockdown, our school hands out food packages to student families who have expressed their wish to get them. The same is done in other school districts all around Estonia as students do not get to eat school meals in their school canteens any more. Our school organises personal delivery of packages near the students’ homes each week.

Plant friends

Our school invites students to take part in a plant-growing project directly translated as “Plant friends of Mäetaguse Basic School”. Everyone is encouraged to plant a seed (e.g flower, cucumber, tomato) and start observing and recording its growth. Teachers are also welcome to participate. The project lasts from March 15 until May 31, 2021.
