Our insignia

Mäetaguse Basic School has its own flag as well as a crest.

Our crest depicts sun rays that emerge behind a hill. The Sun symbolises the light of education and knowledge. In addition to that it also signifies youth and awakening.  The nine sun rays represent nine school years and nine school months.  As the name Mäetaguse in translation means “a place behind a hill” the crest also symbolises the name of the school and our small borough.

The colours of the crest (green, blue, yellow) imply to youth, hope, wealth, light and balance. The colours also stand for the three seasons of going to school - golden autumn, frosty winter and verdant spring.

Consequently, the three colours are our school colours.

The school’s crest and colours were confirmed by the Mäetaguse Municipal Council on December 28, 1994.

The campaigner for the school’s crest was the then principal, author of several books and also the school’s history teacher Mr Tiit Saare. He was acclaimed historian who devoted himself on heraldry.
