Green ideas Rohelend 02. June sekretar

On Europe Day, May 9, the team of our school's science hobby group participated in the final of green ideas competition Rohelend in Narva. The preparations started in March, when I introduced the idea of the competition to the students and asked a group of students if they were willing to take part in the competition. Everyone was interested and we started developing an idea. Starting with the process took time as there are many environmental problems and it was difficult to choose where and how to start. In the course of several brainstorming sessions, the chosen goal was to raise the environmental awareness of the people of Alutaguse municipality by introducing the principles of waste reduction and waste sorting. First, I had to introduce my idea and offer solutions in the preliminary round, where the application had to be sent. When it was sent, we waited for the results - the three best ideas from each region of Estonia made it to the final round. At the beginning of April, we received the good news that we had been elected! We got a mentor and started working diligently to develop our idea and possible solutions. We did a lot of work every week and finally our green idea of how to increase the environmental awareness of the residents of Alutaguse municipality grew. The idea of the students is to make waste sorting easier and more comprehensible for people by updating the waste sorting instructions and mapping the waste points. In addition, students want to start developing teaching materials on waste reduction to introduce young people to these principles at an early age and to raise them as environmentally conscious. Our students start a pilot project at the school to test their idea with a plan to reach the rest of the municipality with this system. To raise environmental awareness, students maintain social media accounts called @clean_world. The hard work paid off, because in the final competition on May 9 we won the 2nd place in the Ida-Viru region. Congratulations to our active students!
