Grade 5 visiting Jõhvi church and library 08. May sekretar

On the morning of Wednesday, April 19, the 5th grade students of Mäetagus Basic School were excited and anxious, because a new experience in the history of their class awaited them. Jõhvi's study trip was taken by bus, and the plan was to visit the central library and learn about the history of St. Michael's Church.

Reet Kaldur was waiting at the church gate, who could answer all questions and led the adventurous journey from the basement under the church altar to the bell tower. The legends and stories told in the church, which tell about the adventures of the people who worked there at different times, provided excitement. The students had many questions about the construction of the church, archeological finds, and rituals. They listened to the sound of church bells ringing and imagined themselves in different roles.

The most memorable experiences were offered to the students by archaeological objects, adventuring in the corridors of the museum under the altar and on the stairs of the bell tower, and practicing playing the organ.

The journey continued to Jõhvi Central Library, where Sven Hõbemäe's photo exhibition "Better a sparrow in the party than a pigeon on the roof" caught the eye on the first floor. The students guessed which bird's nest is in the picture and it was possible to identify with the baby bird waiting for food.

The students also had an exhibition of ceramic cats "Year of the Cat (Rabbit)" and great illustrations drawn by Gita Treice for Arno Jundze's book "Kräabu Töllu Tsips". You got to know strange characters and it was remarkable that the pictures were drawn on chips.

Students were reunited with their favorite books and also found new friends in the form of books. It was a pleasure to note that the students also borrowed books to take home.

Gerri Orgma conducted a recycling workshop and the students could test their manual dexterity. Braiding was practiced, and some students made a braided item to surprise themselves and their parents.

The day spent in Jõhvi was diverse, offering various experiences.

Thanks to Reeda and Gerri, who enriched the day of the students of Mäetagus school.
