Green ideas Rohelend
On Europe Day, May 9, the team of our school's science hobby group participated in the final of green ideas competition Rohelend in Narva. The preparations started in March, when I introduced the idea of the competition to the students and asked a group of students if they were willing to take part in the competition. Everyone was interested and we started developing an idea. Starting with the process took time as there are many environmental problems and it was difficult to choose where and how to start.
3rd place
Our year two student Arseni got the third place in an international lifting competition in Latvia. Congratulations!
Family event
On May 12th we could finally have the traditional and fun family event together- students and their families.
Year nine students had prepared some science experiments for a show, there were active games in the sports hall, workshops inside as well as outside the schoolhouse, such as smoke diving, painting rocks, making fondant sugar mass flowers, animals and cars, and playing hand bells. At the end of the evening, there was a student concert and a delicious snack and dessert table.
Environmental Investment Centre projects
In May and June Mäetaguse Basic school students can go, discover and learn more about Kohtla-Nõmme Mining Museum.
Guests from a Rotary Club
Two members of Tallinn Vanalinn (Old Town) Rotary Club, Hans H. Luik and Vahur Ausmees, came to talk to our year 7.-9. students about media and media consumption, how to find out what is true or not in media, and they also discussed the topic of maritime and leadership.
St George’s Day Run
April 23rd is St George’s Day, and as a tradition, every year Mäetaguse students run a relay with (unlit) torches. So was this year. Teams of six from all the years ran around the beautiful Mäetaguse park on a sunny spring day. Now the springtime has officially begun!
Kohtla-Nõmme Mining Museum
Years 7, 8 and 9 visited Kohtla-Nõmme Mining Museum. It was a day-long learning camp organised by Alutaguse Matkaklubi. Students learned about mining and the mining areas, heard about the history of oil shale mining and its use. Students also got some information about renewable energy.
