Erasmus+ project “No waste” 15. февраля sekretar
Mäetaguse Basic School takes part in an international project concerning the environment and consumption. The project is funded by the European Commission. Our project partners are five schools, they are from Romania, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Turkey. The aim of our project is to increase young people's awareness of the factors that harm the environment and to develop analytical and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, international acquaintances and communication experience are another important aspect and gain from the project. Project duration is two years and during that time period week long learning and teaching activities will take place in each of the countries. Four students and two teachers can travel at a time, and students are staying with local host families.
The following is a short summary of the trip written by the students who participated in the first LTT meeting.
On the first day, through some videos and presentations the locals introduced to us Romania and the city where we were located. Then we were made into teams - 1 student from each country and 3 Romanians. We were given a picture and we had to formulate the problem in the picture and offer solutions - it taught us to think critically. All the speaking and teaching was done in English. Communication went well for us; we made progress by stepping out of our comfort zone. In particular, we talked about consumption, offered solutions together and in groups, and discussed waste. In addition, we vividly remember the treasure hunt organized by the Romanians; it was a fun race against time.
We also went on excursions, for example, to the local Ramnicu Valcea city hall, we visited the salt mine of Ocnele Mari, and the city of Sibiu. Excursion to the mountains of Paltinis offered some thrills to us, but mainly to our project partners. Namely, the mountains were covered with snow, and this offered a lot of excitement to those students whose homeland does not have snow. We also went to a clay workshop, where a local man made beautiful bowls and mugs out of clay. He also showed us how to do it. Our trip ended with a festive dinner, which was very nice - we danced to local songs and had a great time.
This study trip was very memorable and offered many new experiences. In addition, we found many friends from different cultures. During this study trip, we were able to practice English, gained knowledge about overconsumption and critical thinking, and of course, unforgettable memories. We highly recommend this project and when possible, to use the opportunity and join in. We will have the memories for the rest of our lives as well as the friends we made.
The first Erasmus+ project LTT (Learning, training, teaching activity) took place in Romania 28.01-4.02.2022.
