Fermi Energia AS has offered schools free lectures on nuclear energy topics that support the 8th-12th grade curriculum of a general education school. Presentations by practicing specialists in various fields enrich the daily work and offer variety to students' school lessons - it's nice when an expert from outside the school introduces the topic being studied.
On October 30, the students of Mäetaguse basic school had the opportunity from grades 8-9. in class physics class, get a step closer to nuclear physics through Fermi Energia AS engineer Allan Vrager. The lecturer introduced the historical background of the use of nuclear energy, the foundations of nuclear physics and the effects of radiation on the environment and humans. Addressing the current topic of energy production, A. Vrager explained the possibility and expediency of introducing nuclear energy production in Estonia. In a context understandable to the students, he pointed out the limitations, dangers and environmental impact of the production of this type of energy, as well as the opportunities and advantages over other types of energy. There is a high probability that Estonia's energy needs will be ensured by nuclear energy in the future. For its production, a nuclear plant with a small modular reactor should be built, one possible location of which could be in the Aidu quarry. For this, however, we need our engineers and skilled workers, whose training is supported by the Fermi Energia scholarship.
Perhaps the developer of future technology will grow out of today's school desk!
